Voluntary social initiative "A dream as a gift" from UniCredit Bank employees


On June 24 UniCredit Bank employees held a volunteer social event for children "A dream as a gift". The project was aimed at supporting foster-children of Makariv regional center of social support for children and families "Ray of Hope", coordinated by the charity organization "Hope and Homes for Children."

Cooperation of UniCredit Bank and the charity organization "Hope and Homes for Children" in the support of the "Ray of Hope" was launched last autumn, when the bank joined a large-scale initiative "Gift Matching program" by UniCredit. In particular, from October 1 to November 29, 2013 bank employees were collecting funds for the benefit of the "Ray of Hope" Center. In mid-April this year, the UniCredit Foundation doubled the money raised by the employees. Thus, the total amount of charity care amounted to more than 80 thousand UAH. These funds were used for the care of children deprived of parental warmth, who are living in the center.

Continuing further cooperation with the "Ray of Hope" Center, UniCredit Bank staff personally launched "A dream as a gift" initiative. In the frames of the campaign the bank team organized for kids an interesting excursion around the bank and held informative lectures about the role of money in everyday life within the framework of improving financial literacy among the population. By joint efforts of our colleagues, children not only learned a lot of interesting facts about the finances and its management, but also discovered the mysterious world of bank life.

"It should be noted that the initiative was fully implemented by our colleagues from different departments. All willingly undertook the work, dividing responsibilities and trying to prepare a memorable day for every little visitor. It is important that the project was not only a training activity for the foster children but also a real warm holiday. Thanks to the caring colleagues children felt themselves inside a large family and could forget about various life troubles for a while" - commented Natalia Gavrilik, event coordinator and colleague of Corporate Identity and Communications Department.

In addition to cognitive function the project was aimed at returning children faith in good deeds. After all, a special event called "A dream as a gift" was held during the event, when fosters of the social center could order themselves gifts, and the real wizards represented by UniCredit Bank employees selflessly undertook the orders. Therefore, the culmination was the most awaited event for children - giving a small dream.

Employees of the Supplies Department at UniCredit Bank, who took an active part in the event, said: "The staff of the Supplies Department is not indifferent to the fate of children left without parental care. That is why we decided to join the project "A dream as a gift" as kind wizards for undertaking modest dreams and giving kids good memories of the event. We believe that such initiatives will become a tradition in our bank and will benefit for the tighter unification of the team in such important good deeds".

Natalia Berveno, a psychologist at charity organization "Hope and Homes for Children", said: "The children were delighted with the event, with how they were met by bank employees, hosted and accompanied throughout the event. It was a real cognitive and emotional discovery. Especially pleasing was that the staff was able to inspire our students for new challenges, and gave an example to follow, because some children had already expressed a desire to become bankers in future. I would like to thank all the employees of the bank who participated in the creation of exciting holiday for our kids and gave them a real dream coming true! "

The center 'Ray of Hope' – is one of the projects of the charity organization "Hope and Homes for Children," which operates in 8 countries. The main activity of the organization is aimed at introducing the de-institutionalization - the transition from institutional care of children in the system, which provides raising kids in the family. Centre 'Ray of Hope' has been successfully providing social services to the residents of the area for more than 2 years. At the beginning of 2014 through the work of the Centre the families were kept for over 100 children and more than 300 adults were provided with high-quality social services.
