"It’s a win-win deal for everyone" – summary of the joint press conference of Alfa-Bank and UniCredit Bank

04.02.2016

"As a result of the assets exchange between UniCredit and Alfa Group the Ukrainian banking market will get a bigger and stronger bank, which under the circumstances means a better bank for Ukrainian clients," – said Mauro Maschio, General Manager of UniCredit Bank during the joint press conference with Alfa-Bank that took place on February 4 to mark the recent signing of a binding agreement on assets exchange between parent groups of the Ukrainian banks.

The idea was also corroborated by Petr Aven, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABH Holdings and Head of Supervisory Council at Alfa-Bank in Ukraine. "We shall do everything for clients of both banks to get even better service conditions than what they’ve got today, – Mr. Aven said. – "It is a very interesting deal as we’ve been working closely with UniCredit for quite a few years. Without a doubt, this deal will take us to a new level of banking in Ukraine. We are sure that many talented professionals work in both Alfa-Bank and UniCredit Bank, and synergy from their work will only make the new bank stronger."

"This deal is, basically, the agreement between two large international groups investing in the Ukrainian economy, paying taxes to Ukraine’s budget, creating jobs for Ukrainians in cities," added Tamara Savoshchenko, CEO of UniCredit Bank. – "It’s a win-win deal for everyone: the market gets a more potent player combining practices and experience of two major financial groups, while clients benefit from more refined services, their variety, innovations and technologies applied."

As a reminder, the negotiations between UniCredit and Alfa Group resulted in signing of a binding agreement on exchange of assets. At the moment the two banks operate separately, while Ukrsotsbank remains part of UniCredit with full support of the Group.

The UniCredit brandname will remain until official legal approval of the deal in 2016. After that it’s subject to change, most likely to a well-known Ukrsotsbank.

Today, UniCredit’s stable work in Ukraine remains unaltered. Moreover, the bank currently witnesses the inflow of depositors, while its reliability is corroborated by ratings of Minfin and Forbes.

NOTE

Ukrsotsbank is one of the largest universal banks of Ukraine, operating in the local market since 1990. The bank offers full range of services to individuals and corporate clients.

The renovated Ukrsotsbank emerged on 31 October 2016 as a result of strategic deal whereby 99.9% of Ukrsotsbank shares have been transferred from UniCredit Group to ABH Holdings S.A. (АВНН) in exchange for a minority 9.9% stake in ABHH. Thus, the bank has combined 26-year-old traditions of Ukrsotsbank’s client-centric attitude, European quality of service inherent to UniCredit, as well as international banking expertise of ABHH in a number of European countries including CIS. Thanks to the successful synthesis and synergy of the two assets of ABHH in Ukraine, Ukrsotsbank and Alfa-Bank, the banking market of Ukraine will see the rise of a new stronger financial institution. This, in turn, will spur up technological advance, increase efficiency, improve quality of service for the clients, reduce cost of banking services whereas their range will inevitably expand.

The extensive retail network of Ukrsotsbank consists of 237 branches, its headcount reaching nearly 5 thousand employees.
