We see improvements in NBU policy during the last 9 months. This was stated by UniCredit Bank’s CFO Giacomo Volpi.

“We see improvements in Ukraine. The National Bank of Ukraine during the last 9 months has been dealing with problems that were not solved for long. Of course, this is a good sign. NBU has to continue on the path of reforms in order to have Ukrainians fully trusting the banking system,” – said Mr. Volpi.

He also noticed that it would take much more to really put the country on the right track, it would take years and not only the willingness  of a small group of people that are trying to implement reforms, but also the active support of the majority of the Ukrainians.

“NBU is finally behaving transparently, closing banks that are dealing with money laundering and banks that are not solid enough. The refinancing of the banking system performed by NBU has clear rules and high level of transparency, contrary to how it was managed in the previous years. These actions are reshaping the Ukrainian banking system, making it stronger in the long run; people started to realize it and have started to deposit money in the safer banks.” – resumed Giacomo Volpi.
